AIMS OF THE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
At the end of the programme, the students will be able to:
i. Understand the principles involved in various printing processes,
printing machinery and printing materials.
ii. Select suitable materials for a printing job.
iii. Supervise and handle electronic typesetting.
iv. Supervise and handle process photography and plate making
in respect of:
- Process photography
for offset, flexo, gravure & other processes.
- Retouching,
stripping and layout.
- Offset plate
making.
- Gravure cylinder
– making.
- Flexo plate
making.
- Screen-printing.
v. Supervise / operate equipment used for electronic photography.
vi. Supervise; handle machine room operations connected with;
- Flexography
printing.
- Gravure printing.
-Offset printing.
- Web - fed:
Gravure and Flexo Printing machines / Offset Printing Machines.
- Screen-printing.
- Digital Printing
machines.
vii. Supervise, handle finishing operations connected with;
- Book, magazine
& publicity materials.
- Stationary
items and other work.
viii. Detect the areas of problems in printing machines (preventive
maintenance,
minor repairs)
ix. Manage and control production, which involves:
- Selecting
the process and the methodology of production.
- Estimating
and Costing.
- Planning and
Scheduling.
- Allocation
work to sectional heads.
- Directing
and motivating workers to achieve targets.
- Maintaining
production records.
- Indenting
materials required for the job.
- Exercising
control over production and quality.
- Acting as
a link between labor and management.
- Ensuring safety
of labor and plant.
- Rendering
technical advice on choice of materials and processes.
x. Apply scientific methods to problem solving situation in printing
processes, machinery and management.
